Target Sports

There are many sports in the world that people play-indoor and outdoor. One type of sport that many people, men and women alike, is target sports. Target sports are sports that involve target or, in some cases, a bull's eye. Target sports offer individuals a chance to compete in games for fun, practice or even tournaments.

Some examples of target sports are archery, darts, croquet or horseshoes. There are many more types of target sports, but these are a few that hold the interest of many.

Archery is the sport of shooting with a bow and arrow. Years ago, bow and arrow was the main method of hunting for food as well as combat. Today, it is still used for hunting. Most states have a designated "bow season" for hunting deer. It takes a lot of practice and skill to be able to shoot a deer with a bow and arrow. Many sports shops offer an archery shooting range, where competitors can compete to see who the most accurate shot is. There are many types of archery supplies to help aid in shooting more accurately. Some of the most useful archery supplies are bow, string, arrows, arrow tips and releases.

Darts is another target sport in which a dart is thrown at a target that has a bull's eye. The purpose of the game is hitting the bull's eye with the dart or getting as close to the bulls eye as possible. This game started as a pub game in the United Kingdom and is used in most bars through out the United States with many bars having a dart league, where members meet once a week for competitive games. Some of the more common dart supplies are the darts, dart tips and dart flights. Darts are now a very popular sport.

Croquet is a target sport of sorts. Most would consider it an outdoors lawn game. The game consists of a wooden mallet and round wooden balls. Metal hoops are stuck in the ground with the purpose of the game being to hit the ball through the hoops in a certain pattern. The first person to go through all the hoops in a forward motion and wind up where they started is declared the winner.

Horseshoes is another lawn game that is played outdoors with horseshoes and a spike in the ground. Each competitor tosses the horseshoes trying to get it to go around the spike. This is one game where "almost" will give you points, with the person getting the closet to the spike getting the most points.
